Assistant Project Engineer Co-Op

About the Role

The Assistant Project Engineer Co-Op provides hands-on support to project teams working on plumbing and HVAC construction projects. This role is designed for students or early-career individuals seeking exposure to mechanical construction, coordination, project documentation, and field operations. Under the guidance of Project Managers and Assistant PMs, the Co-Op helps ensure accurate documentation, clear communication, and organized workflows throughout all phases of the project.


Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Documentation

  • Assist with organizing project drawings, specifications, logs, and digital file structures.
  • Update and maintain RFIs, submittals, and document trackers under direction from PM/APM.
  • Compile meeting notes, follow-up lists, and communication summaries after project meetings.
  • Support the preparation of field information packets, installation sketches, and updated plan sets.

Engineering & Technical Support

  • Review drawings and coordinated models to understand system layouts and field requirements.
  • Assist with takeoffs, basic quantity checks, and material verification.
  • Provide support for prefabrication paperwork, spool drawings, and installation sketches.
  • Help gather and interpret field measurements or site conditions when needed.

Procurement & Vendor Coordination

  • Assist in preparing material requests, collecting vendor data, and tracking long-lead items.
  • Help maintain submittal and procurement logs and ensure timely updates.
  • Coordinate delivery confirmations and help prepare documentation for field teams.

Field Operations Support

  • Participate in site walks to learn how drawing information translates to field installation.
  • Help collect as-built information, inspection notes, and field-generated documentation.
  • Support communication between office and field teams to ensure accurate and timely information flow.

Closeout & Administrative Support

  • Assist with compiling O&M manuals, warranties, testing reports, and turnover materials.
  • Help maintain organized project files and archives according to company standards.
  • Support basic project controls activities such as filing, scanning, and organizing documentation.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related program preferred.
  • Interest in mechanical systems, building construction, and project coordination.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic drawings or willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with both office and field teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and willingness to learn construction software and modeling tools.
  • Organized, detail?focused, and eager to take on new challenges in a fast-paced project environment.
