About the Role
The Senior Project Manager oversees the delivery of large, complex plumbing and HVAC projects, ensuring they are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with budget, schedule, and quality expectations. This role acts as the primary operational leader on assigned projects, providing direction to Project Managers, Assistant PMs, and field teams. The Senior PM collaborates closely with the Project Executive and takes a proactive role in planning, risk management, financial controls, and client communication.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Execution
- Lead full project lifecycle activities from turnover through closeout, ensuring all phases meet contractual, financial, and logistical requirements.
- Oversee and guide the setup of drawings, specifications, coordination platforms, and document workflows.
- Direct daily project coordination, monitor schedule progress, and ensure alignment between office teams, field leadership, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Run weekly project meetings with GCs and field teams; identify risks early and drive corrective actions.
Procurement & Technical Coordination
- Oversee the development and management of submittals, RFIs, logs, long-lead procurement, and material releases.
- Review major vendor proposals, confirm scope alignment, and support award recommendations.
- Coordinate technical reviews including drawing updates, layout requirements, and planned installation sequences.
- Provide high-level guidance on prefabrication needs, staging plans, and logistics.
Financial Oversight
- Develop, review, and maintain project budgets, cost reports, forecasts, and cash-flow projections.
- Oversee monthly billing, SOV preparation, supporting documentation, and subcontractor requisition review.
- Lead pricing reviews for change orders and T&M work, ensuring alignment with scope and project goals.
- Support the Project Executive with financial risk analysis and corrective action strategies.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure installations comply with contract documents, coordinated drawings, quality expectations, and regulatory standards.
- Support the Safety team by overseeing JHAs, permits, and safety documentation requirements.
- Work with field leadership to maintain high standards of quality control throughout the project.
- Ensure consistent, accurate, and timely closeout documentation, including as-builts, testing records, and O&M manuals.
Team & Client Communication
- Mentor Project Managers, Assistant PMs, and new staff members, supporting their development and consistency in processes.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, GCs, engineers, and trade partners, representing the company professionally.
- Facilitate clear, consistent communication throughout the project team and escalate major issues to the Project Executive as needed.
Experience & Qualifications
- Extensive experience leading mechanical construction projects (plumbing/HVAC), preferably in commercial, institutional, or life-science sectors.
- Strong command of project scheduling, procurement workflows, financial management, and coordinated drawings.
- Ability to lead and mentor a project team while managing client expectations and resolving complex challenges.
- Proficiency with project management platforms, document control systems, and digital collaboration tools.
- Excellent communication, leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills.
